TERRAZZO TILE FLOORING AND MODERN DESIGN, A CLASSY CHOICE
Turn your nose up at the thought of combining modern design with terrazzo tiles? You couldn’t be more wrong? Terrazzo tiles, highly traditional flooring that is often found in old houses, is still a highly elegant choice when combined with modern design.

Grandinetti Graniglia and Pastina Catalogue, the Italian terrazzo and cement tiles.
Finally online the new Grandinetti Catalogue that we describe in this way:
Wonderful simplicity
The following pages contain over one hundred years of history, the history of floors.
Terrazzo and pastina started life as products of the poor. Just like the best traditional dishes of Italian cooking, thanks to the expert ability of craftsmen, they have acquired a precise identity, arising from the various ages, trends and styles encountered during their history: art nouveau, liberty, classical abstract art, littorio, modernism and so on up to the present day.
Franciscan Cloisters of Ravenna (Chiostro di Dante)
Close to the tomb of Dante Alighieri, in Ravenna, one of the most beautiful and rich of history cityes of Italy, there is the complex of the Franciscan Cloisters, owned by the fondazione cassa di risparmio Ravenna.
Today the complex is home of the Centre and the Dante Museum following a major renovation carried out by Ediltenica spa and study Koine ‘Progetti srl, all flooring, wall coverings and stairs have been provided by the company Grandinetti srl.
The realization of the floor for all the Franciscan Cloisters has been one of the most important technological challenges ever faced by our company since its inception, the need to combine the terrazzo and the cotto in a single element that is repeated in floors, wall coverings and stairways led us to study a new construction technique, completely handmade, which made for a unique result. The terrazzo, such as stone “to mold”, lends itself to being able to accommodate all experimentation in his mix different materials, it can be adapted to shapes and colors, always respecting the nature of the material.
Patchwork!
Patchwork or “pieced work” is a form of needlework that involves sewing together pieces of fabric into a larger design. The larger design is usually based on repeat patterns built up with different fabric shapes (which can be different colors). These shapes are carefully measured and cut, basic geometric shapes making them easy to piece together. Precise joining by the most part with a quarter inch foot makes for a patchwork that lies flat without puckers. (Wikipedia).
This technique was born in an age long and it comes from common sense: from the same principle were born terrazzo tiles floor, an industrial product born after the invention of Portland cement as a binder, an essential component to combine residues from processing of the precious marble in forms of different sizes.
As with delicious dishes, sausages and drinks often what comes from knowing “how to arrange” in time acquires a value that goes beyond the mere economic aspect, it is full of tradition, explains the context in which it was born and popular culture much more than many other witnesses of the past.
Unlimited possibilities, infinite soloutions.
