Finally online the new Grandinetti Catalogue that we describe in this way:
Wonderful simplicity
The following pages contain over one hundred years of history, the history of floors.
Terrazzo and pastina started life as products of the poor. Just like the best traditional dishes of Italian cooking, thanks to the expert ability of craftsmen, they have acquired a precise identity, arising from the various ages, trends and styles encountered during their history: art nouveau, liberty, classical abstract art, littorio, modernism and so on up to the present day.

“Anima” the new catalogues
We live in spaces. The space of our daily habits, the space of our home and ideas, the space of our life. These spaces would be heartless and meaningless if they were not the mirror of our way of being and feeling. Anima was born from this certainty and from many years of hand-crafted mastery made by people who know how to mould and work on a lifeless stone, giving it life and warmth. Every single piece is a unique result of the work of skillful hands: a precious uniqueness that shows palpable signs of the liveliness of the homemade process through every single shade and change of tone. Our wish is Anima would liven up the spaces of your life, making your thoughts, desires and passions its main characters.
Franciscan Cloisters of Ravenna (Chiostro di Dante)
Close to the tomb of Dante Alighieri, in Ravenna, one of the most beautiful and rich of history cityes of Italy, there is the complex of the Franciscan Cloisters, owned by the fondazione cassa di risparmio Ravenna.
Today the complex is home of the Centre and the Dante Museum following a major renovation carried out by Ediltenica spa and study Koine ‘Progetti srl, all flooring, wall coverings and stairs have been provided by the company Grandinetti srl.
The realization of the floor for all the Franciscan Cloisters has been one of the most important technological challenges ever faced by our company since its inception, the need to combine the terrazzo and the cotto in a single element that is repeated in floors, wall coverings and stairways led us to study a new construction technique, completely handmade, which made for a unique result. The terrazzo, such as stone “to mold”, lends itself to being able to accommodate all experimentation in his mix different materials, it can be adapted to shapes and colors, always respecting the nature of the material.
“Anima”… work in progress!
Here are some pictures of our cement tiles “anima” series in waxed finish laid with parquet.
Creativity and personality, congratulations to the designer!
Patchwork!
Patchwork or “pieced work” is a form of needlework that involves sewing together pieces of fabric into a larger design. The larger design is usually based on repeat patterns built up with different fabric shapes (which can be different colors). These shapes are carefully measured and cut, basic geometric shapes making them easy to piece together. Precise joining by the most part with a quarter inch foot makes for a patchwork that lies flat without puckers. (Wikipedia).
This technique was born in an age long and it comes from common sense: from the same principle were born terrazzo tiles floor, an industrial product born after the invention of Portland cement as a binder, an essential component to combine residues from processing of the precious marble in forms of different sizes.
As with delicious dishes, sausages and drinks often what comes from knowing “how to arrange” in time acquires a value that goes beyond the mere economic aspect, it is full of tradition, explains the context in which it was born and popular culture much more than many other witnesses of the past.
Unlimited possibilities, infinite soloutions.

How to recognize the quality of a terrazzo tile?
The surface: rich in stones!
The surface of the tile should appear “full” of grit, marble part is more durable, less absorbent and is the one that gives shine to your floor during polishing. To fill the surface of the terrazzo tile is important to respect grading curve (with grits of different diameters) to fill all the spaces, so it is important that there are stones on the surface of large and small!
The thickness: thin!
The single-layer is more compact than the double-layer, less absorbent and lighter!
Materials used: first class!
The tile is made of marble, cement and natural oxides. Choose tiles made with white cement and washed grit!
The Markings: Uni–En 13748-1, obligatory for terrazzo tiles :
Take note of the markings, the Uni–En 13748-1 guarantees of durability and security to your floor!
